Top Recruitment Trends in Marketing Automation in 2024 – The Need to Know!

December 7, 2023

The world of marketing is in a constant state of flux, with new technologies and strategies emerging all the time. In 2024, the role of marketing automation is becoming increasingly important as companies strive to streamline their marketing efforts and improve customer engagement. As a result, the recruitment landscape in the field of marketing automation is consistently evolving.

In this blog, we'll explore the top recruitment trends in marketing automation for 2024.

The Demand for Marketing Automation Specialists

The demand for marketing automation specialists continues to grow as companies recognise the potential for improving efficiency, increasing ROI, and enhancing the customer experience. As a result, organisations are actively seeking professionals with expertise in marketing automation platforms, such as HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and others. To stand out from the crowd in this competitive job market, candidates should pursue relevant certifications and training to showcase their skills and knowledge. Have your finger on the pulse when it comes to CRM technology!

Multifaceted Skill Set

Marketing automation professionals are no longer limited to just one skill set. Today, recruiters are looking for candidates with a broader skill set, encompassing not only marketing automation but also proficiency in data analytics, content marketing, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems. A well-rounded candidate who can connect the dots between these different areas is highly sought after. The ability to tell a story through data and have a commercial customer centric mindset is crucial!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning

AI and machine learning have begun to revolutionise marketing automation, enabling companies to personalise marketing efforts, analyse data more effectively, and predict consumer behaviour. Consequently, recruiters are on the lookout for marketing professionals who have experience with AI and machine learning or are willing to learn. Understanding how to leverage these technologies to optimise marketing campaigns will be a valuable asset, and absolutely one that will be in demand!

Data Privacy and Compliance Expertise

As data privacy concerns continue to rise, marketers need to stay current with the latest regulations and best practices. Recruitment trends in marketing automation are placing a strong emphasis on candidates who are well-versed in data protection laws, such as GDPR and CCPA, and who can ensure that marketing automation practices align with these regulations. Expertise in data security and compliance is a must.

Agile Marketing Teams

Agile marketing teams are becoming more prevalent, especially for companies that want to adapt quickly to market changes and customer demands. Recruiters are looking for professionals who can work effectively in an agile environment, which requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams,

Content Automation

Content remains king in the marketing world, and automation plays a significant role in content creation, distribution, and optimisation. Recruitment in marketing automation is increasingly focused on individuals who can harness the power of content automation tools to efficiently create and distribute engaging content across various channels.

Customer-Centric Mindset

Successful marketing automation is not just about automating processes; it's about enhancing the customer experience. Recruiters are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a customer-centric mindset, showing an understanding of how automation can be used to personalize interactions and create meaningful connections with customers.

Remote Work and Global Talent

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of remote work, and this trend is expected to continue into 2024. This opens up opportunities for both employers and candidates, as organizations can tap into a global talent pool, and professionals can seek job opportunities outside their geographical area. Recruitment in marketing automation is embracing remote work, making it essential for candidates to showcase their ability to work effectively in a remote or distributed team environment.

Marketing automation continues to shape the future of marketing, and the recruitment trends in 2024 reflect the changing landscape of this dynamic field.

Aspiring marketing automation professionals should focus on developing a versatile skill set, including expertise in data privacy, AI, and content automation. Furthermore, they should be prepared to embrace remote work and demonstrate a customer-centric approach to marketing. By staying current with these trends and continuously expanding their knowledge and skills, candidates can position themselves for success in the ever-evolving world of marketing automation and CRM!

The job market can be a rollercoaster—especially in marketing, where roles are shifting, budgets tightening, and the competition for good opportunities is fierce. At New Chapter Talent, we’ve been speaking with many marketers who are navigating job loss, career transitions, and financial strain all at once. And while most friends, family and colleagues mean well, some common comments—though well-intentioned—can actually miss the mark. If someone you know is between jobs in marketing, here’s what not to say—and what to say instead. 1. ❌ “Still no bites?” OR “Any more irons in the fire?” They’re already feeling the pressure, trust us. These kinds of questions, though casual, can unintentionally highlight the uncertainty they're facing. ✅ Try this instead: “Anything exciting in the works? Let me know if I can help.” 2. ❌ “At least you’ve got time to reset!” Sure, burnout is real. But when you’re out of work (and possibly watching your savings dwindle), this doesn’t feel like a ‘reset’. It feels stressful and unsettling. ✅ Try this instead: “How are you going? Job hunting can be exhausting. Here if you need a chat.” 3. ❌ “Have you thought about going freelance?” Freelancing works for some, but it’s not a universal solution—and not everyone wants to be self-employed or has the financial buffer to do so. ✅ Try this instead: “Are you leaning towards in-house, agency, or something else? Keen to hear what you’re looking for.” 4. ❌ “It’s all about who you know.” While there’s truth to the power of networking, this phrase can feel defeating to someone who’s already reaching out and coming up short. ✅ Try this instead: “Who would you love to connect with right now? Happy to make intros if I can.” 5. ❌ “Everything happens for a reason.” This one can sting, especially when rent or mortgage payments are looming and self-doubt is creeping in. ✅ Try this instead: “I feel your pain, and I’m sorry you’re in it. You’re bloody good at what you do, and something great will land.” Support Matters—Now More Than Ever If you're currently in a stable marketing role, this is your moment to show up for others. Share leads. Offer introductions. Back your peers. And sometimes, the best support is just listening without trying to fix. Marketing job seekers don’t need toxic positivity—they need empathy, encouragement, and real opportunities. Let’s be better allies for each other.
