Too often, businesses try to soften the reality of a role because they’re worried about putting candidates off.

✨ REFLECTION ~ This time last week, we were sitting in the Plenary Theatre at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre listening to Michelle Obama in conversation with Annabel Crabb.
Now we’ve had a week to unpack it all… what an experience. What a privilege.
There were so many moments that stayed with us, but a few words continue to echo:
💬 “When they go low, we go high.”
💬 “Failure is an important part of your growth and developing resilience. Don’t be afraid to fail.”
💬 “Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you can make in people’s lives.”
This was the first time the former first lady had spoken at a public event in Australia, and it absolutely didn’t disappoint.
We are in awe of her honesty about her journey. It wasn’t linear. It wasn’t perfect. And somehow, that made her even more inspiring.
What a remarkable human.
And a big thank you to Lucy for organising such a special International Women’s Day competition, and to Michelle Dabraio and Peta Allsopp (MBA) for the wonderful company and conversation. 💜

💜 EVENT ~ Last Thursday’s Marketing Collective Club lunch gave us all plenty to think about.
A huge thank you to Natalie Moore for such an honest, grounded and genuinely useful conversation around wellbeing, pressure, burnout and learning how to better support ourselves through work and life.
One of the simplest, but most powerful, takeaways was Natalie’s “STOP” reset. A quick two-minute meditation designed to bring you back to yourself in the middle of a busy day.

A recent piece from Content Marketing Mag calls out a shift that feels pretty real in day-to-day behaviour: Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) is fast becoming the new battleground for brands.
We’re moving from scrolling through pages of links… to asking one detailed question and getting a single, curated answer in seconds.
Think product research, comparisons, recommendations. All compressed into one response.
That changes how discovery works.
Instead of competing for clicks and rankings, brands now need to think about something different: how do we become the source AI trusts enough to include in its answer?
That’s the heart of AEO.
It’s less about keyword-stuffed content and more about clear, expert, well-structured information that can be easily interpreted and validated by AI systems.
Because the model doesn’t guess. It pulls from what it can confidently verify.
For marketers, this is worth watching closely. The “top of page” game is evolving into something more like “top of answer”.

And yet, the work that really cuts through feels… simpler.
We loved this piece in Content Marketing Mag by Erin Moy. It captures something we’ve been seeing play out across the market for a while now – the shift away from noise, and back to human connection.
A great example in the article looks at a campaign from the New Zealand Herpes Foundation (have you seen it? We'll pop the link in the comments). No shock tactics. No shame. Just honest, empathetic storytelling, delivered with a bit of wit.
And it worked. It was absolutely brilliant.
It’s a good reminder that while AI is changing how we do things, it’s not replacing what makes great marketing… great.

A great read from Shelley Friesen on Content Marketing Mag cuts through a big misconception we’re seeing everywhere:
AI’s value doesn’t sit at the centre of content creation. It sits around it.
Yes, AI can help you move faster.
No, it can’t replace judgment, taste or point of view.
When brands chase volume over intention, you end up with content that’s technically fine… but emotionally flat. Polished, but forgettable.
The strongest takeaway for us?
AI works best when it removes friction — admin, organisation, synthesis — so humans can do what they do best: think, decide, challenge and create something that actually resonates.
✔️ Output isn’t strategy.
✔️ Acceleration isn’t ideation.
✔️ And “on-brand” doesn’t mean distinctive.
