Mini Chapter Mentorship Project

Mentor Match: Elevating Marketers Together

I'm super, excited and delighted to announce my Mini Chapters Mentoring Project!

A Mentoring project, focused on introducing Senior Marketers to Marketers looking to progress their career further, who have ambition but don't quite have the networks or access to leaders that they can truly learn from.

I am committing myself in making one introduction per week, for both a Mentee and a Mentor to collaborate, learn, develop a trusted Mentorship relationship. I myself have a Mentor and talking from experience it has made a huge positive impact to my professional life and has very much helped me squash all those self-doubts!

Why am I doing this?

  • Well, honestly it make me feel good!

  • I've experienced first-hand the benefits in having a trusted Mentor and it worked wonders for me personally!

  • I'm in a lucky position where I get to speak to amazing Marketing Leaders every day, I also get to speak to Marketers still progressing through the ranks and who have ambition and are focused on one day becoming a Marketing Leader. Why not join the 2 together?

  • Finally, I'm not financially benefiting from this in anyway. This is purely an opportunity to connect awesome leaders with junior marketers that have drive and ambition and who don't currently have access to an awesome Mentor.

  • I would love to hear from you if you would like to become either a Mentor OR a Mentee!

Mentors:

  • Are you open to becoming a Mentor? - I'd love to hear from you! Please shoot me through a DM and I'd be happy to schedule a call.
  • What's Involved? Well, I'll connect you with a suitable Mentee and leave it up to you guys to coordinate a coffee / Intro meeting and the rest is up to you!
  • Having a Mentee will allow you to give back all that amazing knowledge and talent you have acquired over the years, gain new perspectives and support you in being a recognised adviser!

Mentees:

  • Is there a missing Mentor gap in your network?
  • Are you looking to one day become a CMO or GM of Marketing, and want to gain advice and a non-biased opinion from a Leader in your field that you trust.
  • You get out what you put in, know what you want to get from your Mentor, what areas of your professional self do you wish to develop?
  • A Mentor cannot fix all of life's problems, but they can put you on the straight and narrow when is comes to career advice and setting realistic expectations.

The job market can be a rollercoaster—especially in marketing, where roles are shifting, budgets tightening, and the competition for good opportunities is fierce. At New Chapter Talent, we’ve been speaking with many marketers who are navigating job loss, career transitions, and financial strain all at once. And while most friends, family and colleagues mean well, some common comments—though well-intentioned—can actually miss the mark. If someone you know is between jobs in marketing, here’s what not to say—and what to say instead. 1. ❌ “Still no bites?” OR “Any more irons in the fire?” They’re already feeling the pressure, trust us. These kinds of questions, though casual, can unintentionally highlight the uncertainty they're facing. ✅ Try this instead: “Anything exciting in the works? Let me know if I can help.” 2. ❌ “At least you’ve got time to reset!” Sure, burnout is real. But when you’re out of work (and possibly watching your savings dwindle), this doesn’t feel like a ‘reset’. It feels stressful and unsettling. ✅ Try this instead: “How are you going? Job hunting can be exhausting. Here if you need a chat.” 3. ❌ “Have you thought about going freelance?” Freelancing works for some, but it’s not a universal solution—and not everyone wants to be self-employed or has the financial buffer to do so. ✅ Try this instead: “Are you leaning towards in-house, agency, or something else? Keen to hear what you’re looking for.” 4. ❌ “It’s all about who you know.” While there’s truth to the power of networking, this phrase can feel defeating to someone who’s already reaching out and coming up short. ✅ Try this instead: “Who would you love to connect with right now? Happy to make intros if I can.” 5. ❌ “Everything happens for a reason.” This one can sting, especially when rent or mortgage payments are looming and self-doubt is creeping in. ✅ Try this instead: “I feel your pain, and I’m sorry you’re in it. You’re bloody good at what you do, and something great will land.” Support Matters—Now More Than Ever If you're currently in a stable marketing role, this is your moment to show up for others. Share leads. Offer introductions. Back your peers. And sometimes, the best support is just listening without trying to fix. Marketing job seekers don’t need toxic positivity—they need empathy, encouragement, and real opportunities. Let’s be better allies for each other.
